Cat-Skiing
Curious about cat-skiing? Here’s what it is, how to try it in BC, and what you need to know before heading into the backcountry.

Powder Mountain Catskiing: Unparalleled Backcountry Adventures in Whistler, BC
Ideal for advanced and expert riders, it provides access to untracked powder, diverse terrain, and personalized service at competitive rates.
A backcountry experience without the helicopter.
Cat-skiing is all about fresh tracks, no lift lines, and exploring remote powder terrain. Instead of a chairlift or helicopter, you ride up the mountain in a snowcat—a big, tracked vehicle built to handle deep snow.
It started right here in British Columbia in the '70s and has since become one of the most popular ways to get into the backcountry. BC's deep snow, wild terrain, and massive mountain ranges make it a perfect place for it.
What to Expect
You’ll head out with a small group and a guide. Most cat-skiing trips are all-day adventures that include safety gear, avalanche training, and lunch. You don’t need to be an expert, but you should be comfortable in powder and off-piste terrain.
What You’ll Need
Bring your own skis or board (fat skis are a bonus), some decent outerwear, and a good attitude. The guides usually take care of the rest.
If you’ve ever dreamed of skiing untouched snow in the middle of nowhere—this is it. It’s a great next step if you’re ready to move beyond the ski resort but not quite into heliskiing yet.
